Graham was founded in 1872 by 2 brothers named Graham and became the county seat in 1874. By 1876 the first public school and church were built. The weekly Graham Leader newspaper also began publishing and is now the oldest newspaper in the region.
Farmers began arriving in large numbers in 1877, expanding the agricultural industry.
Fort Belknap, established in 1851, still retains many of its sandstone buildings and artifacts, as well as the huge Cox Grape Arbor.

Residents of Young County and surrounding areas gather here on the 4th of July each year to celebrate our nation's founding and also to remember the important part that Fort Belknap played in its history.
The Graham school district is ranked in the top 10 of the Lone Star Cup competition. It combines excellence in academics, sports and other extracurricular activities into a ranking among all the schools in the state.

Graham provides many outstanding programs and events. Among them are the Junior Livestock Show, the Possum Pedal 100 bicycle events, Vintage Auto Show and Lions Club Carnival, Lake Country Art Festival, the Young County Fair and Labor Day Weekend, 4‑H Carnival, Ag Hamburger Supper, Spooktacular Parade and Sidewalk Sale, Fall Grandeur and Christmas Parade.
The Young County Arena is a state-of-the-art multi-purpose center serving all of north Texas. It hosts concerts, rodeos, world-class bull riding,
antique tractor shows, arena motocross motorcycle races and more. You can also enjoy the Graham Roughnecks, a local Texas collegiate baseball team.
Other events include Art Splash on the Square, a giant flea market and the Possum Kingdom Relays.
Graham General Hospital offers modern and efficient medical facilities. In addition, the Sheppard AFB Hospital in Wichita Falls is one of the largest in the area and is just an hour away.
Recreation is a way of life in Graham and region. The city has a fine park system of its own with excellent facilities. Shawnee Springs Park and Nature Trail is the historical campsite of a tribe of Shawnee
Indians and later pioneers.
Lake Eddleman and Fireman's Park offer parking spaces for recreational vehicles and Lake Graham is popular with fishermen.
Hunters are also treated to some of the best bird and deer hunting found anywhere. An attraction of major proportions is nearby Possum Kingdom State Recreation Area with its beautiful lake that boasting 390 miles of shoreline and a state park with swimming beaches, camping areas and more.
The countryside is filled with many different types of wildlife and has a reputation for being one of the best game hunting areas in the state.
Nearby lakes and rivers offer the water recreation enthusiast a variety of water sports including fishing, boating, scuba diving, canoeing and swimming.
